Ingredients
For the Asparagus
- 1 bunch fresh asparagus (about 1 lb), trimmed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For the Topping
- 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
- ½ cup grated Asiago cheese (or Parmesan for a milder option)
- Freshly cracked black pepper, for finishing
Optional Garnish
- Lemon wedges, for squeezing over the top
- Chopped fresh parsley or chives, for color and freshness
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Asparagus
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Wash and trim the woody ends off the asparagus spears. Arrange them in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Drizzle the asparagus with olive oil, then sprinkle with minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Use your hands or tongs to toss the spears gently, ensuring they’re evenly coated.
Step 2: Roast the Asparagus
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast for 10–12 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender and slightly charred at the tips.
- Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool briefly.
Step 3: Add the Toppings
- Sprinkle the roasted asparagus generously with crumbled bacon and grated Asiago cheese. Return the pan to the oven for an additional 2–3 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt and become golden in spots.
- Remove from the oven and season with freshly cracked black pepper to taste.
Step 4: Serve
- Transfer the asparagus to a serving platter or individual plates. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top if desired, and garnish with chopped parsley or chives for a pop of color.
- Serve immediately while the bacon is still crispy and the cheese is gooey.
