Scalloped Potatoes

 


Ingredients:

4 cups potatoes, finely sliced
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
A pinch of cayenne pepper
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup cheese (of your choice), grated for topping
Steps to Perfect Scalloped Potatoes:

Initiate by melting butter in a small saucepan, then seamlessly blend in the flour. Allow it to meld for about a minute.
Gradually introduce the cold milk, integrating it thoroughly with a whisk.
Infuse the mixture with salt and cayenne pepper.
Simmer the sauce on a low flame until it achieves a smooth consistency, occasionally giving it a good whisk.
Once done, lower the heat and fold in the sharp cheddar cheese.
Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes in a moderately greased one-quart casserole dish.
Generously drench the potatoes with half of the decadent cheese sauce.
Replicate this with another layer of potatoes followed by the cheese sauce.
As a finishing touch, sprinkle the reserved cheese on top.
For an aesthetic appeal, dust with a smidgeon of paprika.
Bake uncovered in a preheated oven at 350°F for approximately 1 hour.
