Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

Ingredients:

1 jar of dried beef slices, rinsed well and chopped
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
Pinch of cayenne pepper
2 cups milk
Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste
Toasted bread slices
Instructions:

Begin by rinsing the dried beef slices thoroughly to remove excess saltiness. Pat them dry with a paper towel, then proceed to chop them into small, bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the melted butter, whisking vigorously until the mixture is well combined and cooked through, which should take about 45 seconds.

Gradually pour the milk into the saucepan while continuously whisking. Keep whisking until all the milk has been added.

Introduce the chopped dried beef to the saucepan, stirring occasionally. Allow the mixture to cook for a few minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Taste the creamed chipped beef and season with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper according to your preference.

Serve the creamy chipped beef generously atop slices of dry toast. Indulge in the delightful flavors and savor each nostalgic bite.

Please note: This recipe holds a special place in my heart, but due to its richness, I only prepare it once a year, typically on my birthday. Enjoy this classic dish with the knowledge that it's a treat to be savored on special occasions.
