Granny's Cocoa Cream Pie

 


Let your cravings rage with this simple and delicious chocolate pie that is likely to bring back memories of your grandmother's baking.

I remember asking Granny Brewer to write down a chocolate pie recipe. She said, "I don't have one. I just make pancakes.  You see, she had two grandchildren and thought each one needed their own pie. bless them. 

They always got their pies but I never got my recipe. of which this is. I had to experiment until I came up with what her method/recipe should be because it's so good. I did, several years ago, and I've been making chocolate muffins ever since. The problem is that I understood what she meant when she said, "I don't have a recipe."

* Ingredients :

° 1/2 cup cocoa
° 1/4 cup cornstarch/or arrowroot powder (or 1/2 cup all-purpose flour)
° 3 eggs yolks
° 1 1/2 CUPS sugar
° 1/4 tsp salt
° 2 cups of milk
° 1 tsp vanilla
° 9" pre-baked pie crust

* Preparation :

Step 1
Mix cocoa, cornstarch and beaten egg yolk; Sugar also salt, & bit by bit adding milk, stir in a saucepan on medium heat.

Cook until thickened, beating smooth. While stirring, mix in the vanilla. The cream pies take some time to thicken, so stir them ... and stir (10 to 15 minutes).

Using a heavy bottomed pan really helps. Only keeping it going To it thinken. Cast into pre-baked pie crust.

Placing in refrigerator to cooled for sundry h before serve .

Add whipped cream, cold whipped topping or baked meringue for garnish if you like 🙂
