Recipe Items
Primary Substances:
Two kilos of lean ground beef
one gallon of tomato juice
One 29-oz can of tomato purée
1 can (15 oz.) of drained red kidney beans
Drain and rinse one can of pinto beans (15 oz.)
Fresh produce:
1 medium-large onion, almost 1 1/2 cups chopped
half a cup of celery, diced
a quarter cup of green bell pepper, chopped
Seasonings & Spices:
One-fourth cup of chili powder (less for a milder flavor)
use 1 teaspoon of ground cumin; for a stronger taste, use more.
mixture of 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
One teaspoon of salt
half a teaspoon of black pepper, ground
50/50 milligrams of dried oregano
half a teaspoon of sugar
If you're looking for a little heat, add 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
How to Follow
Initial Step: Sear the Meat
Break the ground beef into crumbs while it cooks in a big pan over medium heat; brown until cooked through.
For a chili that isn't oily, be sure to drain out any extra fat.
Next, mix all of the ingredients.
Brown the meat in a 6-quart saucepan and add the tomato purée, tomato juice, kidney beans, and pinto beans.
To add a burst of freshness and texture, dice the green bell pepper, celery, and onion.
Thirdly, Pour in the Spices
Add the garlic powder, salt, powdered cumin, oregano, sugar, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, then stir.
Toss the chili well to include all of the seasonings.
Chest Step 4: Reduce Heat to Low
Stir the chili every 15 minutes to avoid sticking and to blend the flavors while it simmers over low heat for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, covered.
For an easier, hands-off method, you may transfer the mixture to a slow cooker and simmer it on low for three to four hours.
