First, gather some nettles and coarsely slice them using kitchen shears. It is best to not use nettles that have flowered and set seed. No matter how careful gardeners are, nettle seeds will eventually fall to the ground and aid in the plant's propagation.

Fill a container halfway with chopped nettles. This is step two. Fertilizer and metal react badly, therefore don't use a metal container.

3. Pour in the heated water, which should be between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius. Hot water kills beneficial bacteria and slows down fermentation, therefore it should not be too hot. Since the volume will expand somewhat after fermentation begins, you do not need to fill the container all the way to the top.

4. Be sure to combine the ingredients daily for two weeks. When the foam starts to melt and the color starts to darken, it will be ready. It is usual for the combination to have a strong odor.

5. Apply the fertilizer using a 1:10 ratio of water to fertilizer.

The combination may also include other types of plants. So, if you want a fertilizer with more nitrogen, add clover; if you want more phosphorus and iron, add dandelion.

Ash from burning wood is another practical addition. It is rich in plant-beneficial minerals. For every 10 liters of fertilizer, add one glass.
