The recipe calls for 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 chopped onion, 1 and 3/4 pounds of smoked ham, 1 pound of Great Northern beans, and salt and pepper to taste.

Coat the base of the slow cooker with the beans.
Sprinkle with brown sugar, ham, and onions.
Pour around two inches of water over the beans.
For two hours, cook over a high heat.
After the first four to five hours, turn the heat down to low and simmer.
Take out of the slow cooker the pork knuckle. After you've chopped the meat, add it back to the saucepan along with the beans. Add salt and pepper to taste after stirring.
