Heat the oven: Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Put oil or butter on a baking dish that measures 9 by 13 inches.
Get the onions ready: Peel them and cut them into rings that are 1/4 inch thick. Put in a baking dish that has been prepared.
To prepare cheese sauce, mix mayonnaise, sour cream, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a medium bowl. Mix until everything is well blended.
Put the cheese mixture on top of the onion rings in the baking dish.
Put toppings on it. Combine crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter. Put the onion and cheese mixture on top.
Cook in the oven that has been preheated for 30-35 minutes, or until the onions are soft and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Add a decoration before serving: If you want, sprinkle some chopped parsley on top. Serve it while it's hot.
