Eggs are a common food in many homes, valued for being versatile and nutritious. Knowing if an egg is fresh or bad is important for how it tastes and for safety reasons. Eating a bad egg can make you sick, so it's important to know how to check if they are fresh. Here are some good ways to tell if an egg is fresh or bad.

Testing Buoyancy
The float test is a simple and traditional method to check how fresh an egg is.

Fill a deep bowl or glass with cold water.
Put the egg in the water carefully and watch what happens.
A fresh egg sinks to the bottom and lies flat on its side.
Egg that is a bit older: sinks but stays upright or tilts.
Rotten egg: Rises to the top.
Why does it work?
Eggshells have tiny holes that let air in slowly. Eggs that are fresh have less air inside, which makes them heavier and causes them to sink. As eggs get older, they absorb more air, which makes them lighter and causes them to float.
