Recipe for a Spinach and Feta Puff Pastry Braid


 


Enhance the traditional taste of Greek spanakopita by using a puff pastry braid for a flaky and elegant twist. This Spanakopita Puff Pastry Braid combines spinach, herbs, and cheeses inside a flaky, golden pastry.

List of items needed: For the stuffing:

Two-thirds cup of olive oil
1 medium onion, roughly chopped.
1/2 cup of finely chopped dill 1 cup of chopped scallions 2 cartons of frozen chopped spinach (10 ounces each), thawed and squeezed to remove excess water
1 small spoon of salt
1/8 of a teaspoon of black pepper
8 ounces of crumbled feta cheese
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese
1 egg, whisked For the Braid:

1 piece of frozen puff pastry dough that has been defrosted
Mix one egg yolk with water to make an egg wash.
1 teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds

 
Directions: Making the stuffing:

Warm up some olive oil in a big pan on medium heat. Cook diced onion and green onions until soft.
Add drained spinach, chopped dill, salt, and pepper. Cook until everything is mixed well and any extra liquid disappears. Let it cool for a short time.
After it cools down, mix the cooked mixture with a beaten egg, grated mozzarella, and crumbled feta cheese.
